Red lava is a mix of pieces of stones of volcanic origin. The porous substrate provides an ideal habitat for bacterial flora, and is also an excellent base for plant colonization and nitrifying bacteria and for plants. It is also an interesting decorative element for natural aquariums.

Red lava from Aquael is a mix of different sized pieces of natural substance. These rocks are of natural volcanic origin. They will work perfectly as a decorative element in aquarium arrangements. But these are not the only benefits of using volcanic lava in an aquarium. This rock is porous, composed of thousands of tiny irregularities, which provides excellent conditions for the development of colonies of nitrifying bacteria. Lava in an aquarium promotes biological filtration. In addition, the uneven structure of the rock promotes good establishment of plants like Anubias, Microsorium, mosses and liverworts.

What are the benefits of our product?

• High porosity – lava has a naturally large surface area on which colonies of beneficial nitrifying bacteria can settle, which aids biological filtration
• Lightness and stability – it is relatively lightweight for a stone material, yet structurally stable, allowing more to be used in the aquarium with relatively lightweight material
• Decorative element – the warm shade of lava blends beautifully with the green of plants and other elements of the tank design
• Natural appearance – blends well with natural arrangements (e.g. iwagumi style, nature).
• Safe for fish – does not significantly affect water parameters (pH, hardness); remember to rinse the lava well before placing it in the aquarium
